Infrastructure Insights Increases Data on Electrical Grid Capacity Additions
For energy traders and utilities, understanding when and where new generation, transmission, and load centers will be built is critical for creating accurate market forecasts and electric infrastructure plans.
Yes Energy’s Infrastructure Insights, which tracks construction projects across North America, gives you all the information you need to make informed decisions. The tool visualizes key data points, including ownership, size, location, status, timeline, and more, providing actionable insights into upcoming supply and demand changes on the power grid.
You can now employ several new features within the Infrastructure Insights model. We’ve introduced multiple new data points – these expanded capabilities will further improve your asset development, investment decisions, forecasts, and modeling.
Here’s a rundown of what’s arrived.
New Electric Infrastructure Data Points
1. Projected Online Year
The Infrastructure Insights module currently includes the reported in-service month and year for new generation and transmission projects as well as new load centers – such as data centers, large manufacturers, or other large-scale energy consumers. These dates are typically pulled from publicly available sources, including Independent System Operators (ISOs), utilities, developers, or other reputable sources.
However, publicly reported timelines are often optimistic or outdated. That’s where our new projected online year data point comes in.
Leveraging years of industry experience and proprietary project-tracking expertise, our team will generate a realistic, data-informed projection for each project’s likely completion date. This is at the discretion of our analysts who will incorporate contextual factors like project size, permitting progress, construction status, and regional variables.
For example, suppose a utility has a proposed 500 kV, 100-mile transmission line that was last reported to be completed by December 2025, but no construction has begun. In that case, our analysis may project an online date of 2027 based on typical construction timelines.

2. Probability Scores
In addition, we’re introducing probability scores for each generation, transmission, and load center project we track. This score, ranging from 0% to 100%, indicates the likelihood that a project will be completed. This is especially critical for financial transmission rights (FTR) traders modeling congestion impacts or for contractors evaluating potential opportunities.
The scores are generated through a proprietary algorithm that incorporates a wide range of variables – such as permitting status, data source reliability, regional development trends, and project complexity.
Projects with lower scores may be in the early stages of development and open for bidding, while higher scores indicate advanced-stage or shovel-ready status.
Each asset type – generation, transmission, and load center – utilizes a tailored scoring model. We provide the full methodology to support transparency and enable you to fine-tune your model based on your market perspective.
Probability scores will update in real-time as underlying project data changes.

3. ISO Queue Status
The third data point coming to Infrastructure Insights is ISO queue status, which shows the exact status of a generation project within the interconnection queue process. We’ll pull data based on each project’s unique identifier code as assigned by ISO or Regional Transmission Organization (RTO).
We currently provide a status column that uses publicly available data to classify a project as being in early development, advanced development, or under construction. By layering in the official ISO queue status, users gain an additional point of verification.
This is especially helpful when data conflicts arise – for example when ISO queue records are outdated, but developers report progress. Including both assessments in Infrastructure Insights helps asset developers and FTR traders reconcile these discrepancies and make better-informed decisions.
As grid operators move projects through their interconnection queues, the ISO queue status field will update automatically, ensuring you always have the most current information.

4. Point of Interconnection for Load Centers
Finally, we’re adding into our solution the reported or estimated substation that a load center would connect to.
The point of interconnection field reflects the name of the substation where the load center is reported or estimated to interconnect. The POI accuracy field will denote whether it’s exact or an estimate. We’ll only make POI estimations for those load centers where we have an exact location or address, and we’ll decide them based on proximity to the load center as well as the voltage of the substation.
Conclusion
These new capabilities underscore Yes Energy’s commitment to continuously improving our state-of-the-art electric infrastructure data.
Whether you’re forecasting congestion, evaluating investments, or tracking project risk, the addition of projected online years, probability scores, ISO queue status, and point of interconnection for load centers provides you with the timely, data-rich intelligence you need to move confidently in a fast-changing market.
